We describe this site without naming it. Traffic figures are estimates of monthly visits from Google, from a third-party keyword and ranking index, not the site's own analytics. Article counts come from KoalaWriter.
In September 2023, a vacation rental marketplace started its blog with KoalaWriter. Google sent it no measurable traffic at the time. By July 2024 it was getting an estimated 64,000 visits a month, and in October 2026, nearly two years after its last KoalaWriter article, it was at about 67,000.
Key numbers
- Estimated Google visits a month: none before September 2023, about 64,000 by July 2024, and about 67,000 in October 2026.
- Keywords the site ranks for: a few dozen in October 2023, about 19,000 in July 2024 and nearly 90,000 in October 2026.
- Articles: about 2,200 new blog posts and 4,300 rewritten articles between September 2023 and November 2024.
- Internal links: about three in four articles were written with automatic internal linking turned on.
The site
A US marketplace for vacation rentals, built around outdoor and waterfront destinations. Before September 2023 its blog had no Google traffic we could measure, so this is close to a blog built from nothing.
What it published
The articles fell into three groups, all inside the business's own world:
- Destination pages. One article per destination, park or region people search for, plus state-level vacation rental guides.
- Advice for owners who rent out a property. Decor, lighting, insurance, smart locks and the other questions hosts ask.
- Things to do. Boating, fishing, kayaking, camping and RV travel.
It published steadily for the first six months, roughly 100 to 500 articles a month, then slowed through the summer of 2024. From September to November 2024 it ran a second, much bigger push of about 4,700 articles, nearly all of them in rewrite mode.
What happened to its traffic
- October to December 2023: the first visits arrived, reaching about 1,000 a month by December.
- April to July 2024: traffic climbed from about 7,000 to 64,000 a month as the number of ranking keywords grew from about 4,000 to 19,000.
- November 2024: a one-month drop to about 12,000, then back to about 61,000 in December.
- Early 2025: traffic fell to about 21,000 by May, during a stretch of Google core updates.
- Mid-2025 to now: a steady recovery to about 75,000 in September 2026 and 67,000 in October, with no new KoalaWriter articles since November 2024.
What you can take from it
- Stay inside your own subject. Thousands of articles, but every one about the places the business rents in, the people who rent there, or what they do on the trip.
- Give each searched place its own page. A large share of the articles target a single destination, the way travelers search.
- Link the articles together. Most were written with internal linking on, so new posts linked to existing ones from the start.
- Expect swings. The site lost two thirds of its traffic in early 2025 and took over a year to pass its old peak.
